I tried to raise a cactus as my first plant years ago. I killed it. Never tried to grow again. Now, growing cannabis for medical is becoming a necessity, so here I am to learn. The giant giveaway doesn't hurt either.
This is my DIY Grow Room Project. Everything is so expensive to start.
"Everything is so expensive to start." - True dat! horribly expensive! but view it as a hobby, build and learn over time.
My first 'grow box', cost me less than currency equivalent $10 USD. It worked too! But when my girls outgrew it, i figured i would use a old up side down fish tank as a make shift green house. Went out for 3 hours shopping and when i got back they were shriveled back into the soil, they literally disintegrated. I was so upset i had to have a beer. ha.
So in hindsight, aim for a proper set up; Initially put your moneys into the lightning, the rest should build itself along the way. ( month to month, 'pay day treats'. )
I have to agree with @Agent Smith dependingon your situation. Start with a light, then focus on evironment. With those two things you can grow some dank. No one started with all the equipment they have. Its all collected over time. Stay positive friend.

I saw a cheap cabinet at the goodwill for 10 bucks. Take out the shells and add something to keep light out. Microgrow.
